A few photos from my friend Lucy's birthday party because I can't resist taking lots of photos when there are balloons around.

The Photography of John Gutmann
The Game, New Orleans 1937
Wandering through SFMOMA this past weekend, I was reminded of my love for John Gutmann. It was the photo above that first turned me onto him several years ago. I love everything about this image. I'm not even going to explain the reasons because my list will go on and on.
Here are a few more...
The Oracle, 1949
The Fleet is In, San Francisco 1934
Texas Women, 1937
I especially love this one because I have those pants. Maybe next time I'll try them with cowboy boots instead of riding boots. I'm always looking for an excuse to wear them.

Take a minute to check out the website, there are some great shots of San Francisco during the 1930's.

Weekend garage sale finds!
I found this stackable record player and stand at a yard sale on Sunday along with some great records. The sound is so much nicer than the portable turntable I've been using. I'm sort of wishing I had dug through more of the record boxes because I'm loving the ones I did bring home.

Visions in my near future
Plotting and planning a desert road trip. I can hardly contain my excitement about how the plans are coming together. xo

Farmers Market Sunday
Trying to fit a flat of strawberries into the Vespa for the ride home from the farmers market isn't easy.

Luckily, we got them home safely and made them into this delicious rum rhubarb strawberry jam.

Pincurls and Red Lipstick
Last week was a rough one. One of those where nothing in particular is wrong but things just seem to add up. I wanted to make sure my weekend wasn't very demanding.
Pincurls and red lipstick always seem to brighten my spirits.
Saturday, I did 3 curls for good measure, dug out some old jeans I haven't worn in who knows how long (some windy San Francisco days cancel out the option of wearing dresses) and only left the house for a nice walk, a couple estate sales and some afternoon sangria with friends. I opted for one of my secret weapon red lipsticks - the long discontinued Clinique Flamenco.
It seemed to do the trick.

Ethereal Treasures
I had no expectation for finding anything this past weekend at Alameda when I arrived to find a line into the parking lot for the first time since I started going several years ago. I decided to wait it out and go anyway. I'm so glad I did.
It seems like I find things in themes from time to time. I was so pleased to find older dresses than I usually see at Alameda and in these gorgeous gossamer fabrics. I'm in love with the color and detail of the mint dress and the little bow, sleeve detail and delicate flow of this long yellow one. I think this is might be the first long dress I've owned in recent history.
Part of the fun will be choosing the perfect vintage slips to wear underneath and finding the right occasion for each. The seller of the yellow dress did throw in a matching parasol..... Gastby picnic, perhaps???
