Match the finest words to the greatest tune

You know those bands that are just the right thing for a certain time in your life and seem to stick with you forever? Camera Obscura is one of those bands for me. I think they really got me right after I moved to San Francisco, even though I'd heard them long before. I even once said that if I were to ever have a band, this is what I'd want it to sound like.
It was fitting for me to see them for the first time at the Great American Music Hall, the place I saw my first show in San Francisco and one of my favorite venues.
The show was great, it felt very casual...like friends were playing onstage. I adore Tracyanne and you could really tell how much each member enjoyed playing each song. They even played Eighties Fan for the first time on the tour when someone in the audience shouted it out.
The opening band was Best Coast, which I hadn't heard until this week. I think they are one of those bands you really need to see live, their record doesn't seem to do them justice.

Come on darling, I've something in mind

I had been looking forward to seeing Camera Obscura at Great American Music Hall since they annouced they'd be making a stop in San Francisco post Coachella.
The Pressman and I got dressed up and went for sushi at Ryoko before the show; then stopped by Le Colonial for fancy cocktails and live swing music.
To top off an already lovely evening, Tracyanne and crew were delightful as expected.

When it feels like summer in San Francisco...

you have to make the most of it while you have the chance.

Red Egg and Ginger Party

I attended my first Red Egg and Ginger Party at the Four Seas Restaurant in Chinatown on Sunday. It is a Chinese celebration where parents introduce their new baby to family and friends.
Our table had a hard time keeping up with the seemingly endless plates of delicious food that were being served.
Anna and I couldn't pass up the steamed custard buns
I might have to go back at a more decent hour to have a drink at the bar.

An evening ensemble

This outfit brings together many things in my closet that don't get much attention. I adore this dress but rarely wear it because the high collar. I never seem to be able to find both sock garters at the same time and this leopard hat can be too much with most outfits...but I think they came together nicely with red shoes, nail polish and lipstick for a night out dancing to 60's music.
I do wish you could see more detail in the dress, it has the cutest buttons across the front and a really nice textured fabric.

Fresh from the salon...

No, I didn't really cut my hair this short.
My trusted hair stylist - Courtney @ The Secret Agent Salon gave me a faux bob hairstyle. I've been growing my hair out for so long, it was a nice change to go short for a day. I especially loved the longer curls along one side. She used picture below as the inspiration for my look.

Castro!

I know this isn't the highest quality photo, but I wanted to share it anyway. I loved watching the movie titles being changed manually at the Castro last night as I was waiting for the bus. I adore The Castro Theatre and try to see movies here as often as I can. It's a much more authentic experience than going to one of the newer theaters that don't even make their own popcorn anymore. I'm looking forward to seeing Lolita on the 28th as part of the Stanley Kubrick festival. If you can make it, Sunrise is a great silent film being played this Sunday.

A well curated collection

This past weekend the California College of the Arts held their graduate open studios, allowing the public to wander from studio to studio interacting with the artists and viewing their most recent work. There were many inspiring pieces and perspectives, but I was most inspired by this beautiful clothing simply hanging in the center of the room, the work of student Lauren Marsden.
It got me reflecting on how much I want to simplify things...pare down my wardrobe to a few well curated and beloved pieces, perhaps housing them in a gorgeous old armoire with mirrored door. A simple dress, skirt, top, fur trimmed coat, swimsuit. My current situation screams the opposite of this simplicity that I long for. As I edit my collection and enjoy shipping my pieces off to new homes via my etsy shop I hope that I can resist the urge to replace them with whatever I come across in my size...but instead hold out for those gems that you certainly don't find often but adore forever.

A Good Friday Indeed

A day off in the city is something to be taken advantage of, even when the weather doesn't cooperate. Choose a neighborhood, grab a friend for a leisurely lunch, wander the shops and use the rain as an excuse to stop for a drink whenever the mood strikes.
