Oakland Adventures

Our evening started with a detour, remind me to never take Bush street to try to get across the Bay Bridge, especially on Chinese New Year Parade Day.

Almost a full moon...

We eventually made it to Oakland to try out Boot and Shoe Service, a new restaurant by the Pizzaiolo folks. It was worth the traffic...the pizzas we've come to love along with great hand-crafted cocktails. The bartenders and the sommelier made sure we were taken care of - even pouring us a glass of a wonderful dessert wine normally only served by the bottle. We were enjoying our meal so much, we almost forgot we needed to head to the Fox Theater for the Magnetic Fields show.  I really love the Fox... it's gorgeous and the acoustics, when paired with the right musicians, can be a treat. I have to say the Magnetic Fields show, much as I love them, was a snooze-fest. They were very particular about their setup, no doors opening and closing during songs, no alcohol served in the auditorium. I get it, they are very serious about their craft. I would have been okay with the restrictions had they blown me away with their set. Sigh,  perhaps I should have caught Mark Kozalek instead.
